Transform your traditional whipped sweet potato dish this Thanksgiving by adding a splash of bourbon and a sprinkle of toasted spiced pecans. This delightful twist will elevate your side, creating a taste experience that your guests won’t forget!

Ingredients:

  • 6 sweet potatoes (4 pounds)

  • 6 tablespoons of clarified butter/ghee divided, plus more for the dish. (Vegans – use plant butter)

  • 1/4 cup bourbon whiskey OR 2 teaspoons bourbon whiskey extract and 1/4 cup water

  • 4 tablespoons real maple syrup OR coconut sugar

  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Sea salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. Roast potatoes on a rimmed baking sheet until a knife easily inserts into the centers, about 1 hour.

  3. Cool enough to handle, then remove and discard skins.

  4. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F.

  5. Lightly butter a 2-quart baking dish.

  6. In a bowl, mash together the sweet potatoes, bourbon, 2 tablespoons of clarified butter, and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup.

  7. Season with salt and transfer to the prepared baking dish.

  8. In a separate bowl, combine pecans, cinnamon, and the remaining 4 tablespoons of clarified butter and 3 tablespoons of maple syrup.

  9. Sprinkle the nut mixture over the potatoes.

  10. Bake until bubbly and warmed through, about 30-35 minutes.
