Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest systems of natural healing. The use of herbs and spices in a warm milk drink is a common remedy for sleeplessness. This recipe features nutmeg (a natural sleep aid), turmeric and cinnamon (anti-inflammatories), ginger (anti-nausea), cardamom (muscle spasm reducer), ashwagandha (an adaptogen that helps boost your immune system and your body deal with stress), and black pepper (anti-nausea, headaches, poor digestion, and anti-inflammatory properties).
Servings: 1 Mug
Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond* or coconut milk, vanilla

1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
-
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon to taste
-
1/4 teaspoon ground ashwagandha (or another adaptogen, like shatavari, or astragalus)

1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
-
1/8 teaspoon of ground ginger
-
1/8 teaspoon of ground cardamom
-
1 pinch freshly ground black pepper (helps turmeric absorption)
-
1 dash sea salt (rounds out flavors)
-
1 teaspoon virgin coconut oil or ghee
-
1-2 teaspoons raw honey, *Lucuma powder, monk fruit sweetener powder (zero calories), or a few drops of sugar-free stevia

1 tablespoon *Moon Juice powder
Directions:

Bring milk to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.

Whisk in cinnamon, turmeric, ashwagandha, nutmeg, ginger, and cardamom; season with pepper and salt. Whisk vigorously to incorporate any clumps.

Add coconut oil, reduce the heat to low, and continue to cook until warmed through, 5–10 minutes (the longer you go, the stronger the medicine).

Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Now pour the steeped golden milk into a mug.

Stir in honey (avoid cooking honey, as it’ll destroy its healing properties).

Drink warm, and climb right into bed. (Of course, don’t forget to brush your teeth and floss. 😊)
